Have you ever covered your ear with your hand and then spoken? If you have you will have heard that your voice seems to 'boom' inside your head - this is the effect of occlusion. Sound usually escapes from our ears through the open ear canal, tus when we block our ears we prevent sound escaping which is the cause of the 'booming' effect.
