Mark Mondesir
Mark Mondesir calls the T2 "Detox for the ears" For the past few months I have been using the T2s as earphones for my iPod/CD player/Powerbook etc.
For so long one becomes used to listening to music with much colouration found on Hi-Fi headphones and speakers, which fail to supply an authentic representation of the sound source. Much like being used to a diet of processed foods.
Before experiencing the T2s, I'd been listening to music in "cartoon form" as I would insist on buying phones with as wide a frequency range as possible (8 - 25000 Htz for example) so i can appreciate all the twinkly highs and sub lows. 20 - 20,000 Htz just sounded dull to me. As a discerning drummer I'm used to a very broad frequency range, being fortunate enough to have retained all of my hearing.
However, listening to music through the T2s is a revelation!
They deliver a true reference to sound so you really can "feel" the full range intended on the sound source. And it's a great arranger/orchestrator's tool as the soundstage spells everything out clearly.
The "Detox" comes in when you listen to an album you really love and thought you were familiar with, only to find that the recording or mix isn't actually as great as you thought. Or, on the other hand, is far better than you thought. This is because the T2s display everything...... warts and all. Your sound "taste buds" are re-trained and you can tell whether there is too much salt. You no longer tolerate putting junk in your system. I will use them as monitors for my Logic Pro music software when writing music.
Very exciting.
Then I finally started to use them in their intended purpose: as on stage performance In-Ear Monitors.
I've just finished a European tour with ex Deep Purple Bassist/Singer Glenn Hughes and this was my first in-ear experience. After much fair warning from others that this is a method some either love or hate, I found I took to them like a duck to water. Complete clarity without the volume (which was helpful as Glenn is the loudest bass player on the planet). We could rock out and my ears still felt fresh at the end of the night. And we toured for a month.
In short: I LOVE THEM! |
