Hearing damage occurs as a result of exposure time, the average noise level and the peak level of very loud sounds. As a musician, you know how many hours you spend performing, but a ringing in the ears (tinnitus), a temporary dulled sense of hearing or an intolerance to some loud sounds are warning signs that you have overloaded your hearing (hyperacucis) reduced tolerance to loud sounds (hearing loss) reduction in hearing acuity (temporary and permanent). Protecting your hearing properly will help you avoid an irreversible problem that can’t be remedied.

We have come across many reasons why hearing protection is not used ie; "I like my music to be loud and wearng earplugs is namby pamby and uncool" - our answer to this is 'it's very cool, custom earplugs are unobtrusive, if you wish to listen to music and enjoy it for the rest of your life. So remember, you cannot buy a new pair of ears!

"I don't have any hearing problems" - our answer to this is 'maybe not at the moment however over exposure to loud music / noise, one day it will"

"I've got used to the sound and it doesn't bother me" - our answer to this is 'your hearing wasn't built to take such high noise levels and it is inevitible that it will affect your hearing one day"

"I don't play my kit loudly - and anyway, the ringing goes away the next day" - our answer to this is 'One day perhaps it wont'

"I don't care if I can't hear when I'm 50!" - our answer to this is "you will"
