Regulation 1a (Music and Entertainment) April 2008. Until this date noise at work regulations 1989 will continue to apply, so you have just a couple of months! The legislation relates to all workplaces where live or recorded music is played, bars, restaurants, clubs, public houses.

If you are an employer, you are liable as the licencee and it is in your interest to ensure that your company is up to date before the forthcoming regulations come into force.

Hearing damage occurs as a result of exposure time, the average noise level and the peak level of very loud sounds. As a music lover, you know how many hours you spend in clubs, at concerts, or simply general music listening. If you have ever had a ringing in the ears (tinnitus) or a temporary dulled sense of hearing after being exposed to this type of loud music, you have overloaded your hearing and this could mean the start of noise induced hearing loss and irreversible damage. You may also have had an intolerance to some loud sounds which is a warning signs that you have also overloaded your hearing.

Protecting your hearing properly will help you avoid an irreversible problem that can’t be remedied. So remember, you cannot buy a new pair of ears!
